There was a period of time in the past where the manufacturer of the motherboard capacitors was having quality issues. There is a year or so worth ,motherboards that all fail this way. If you have been able to repair them (with good caps) then they should last a while. -----Original Message----- From: Stan Brown [mailto:stanb@xxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Michael Toecker Sent: Tuesday, March 31, 2015 09:59 AM To: foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [foxboro] Bulging Capacitors in P92 (P0923LT) All Powerful List, I have an interesting case for you.... We have several P92 workstations, foxboro part P0923LT, that have been experiencing failures. After analysis, an outside party identified that the failure was due to failed (bulging) electrolytic capacitors on the Dell P390, and replaced them. We're in a difficult place in our lifecycle replacement, and are coming up with a bridging strategy between our current setup and a future setup, this is a big problem in that strategy. Has anyone else on the list experienced this failure? If so, was there more detail on what failed, why it failed, and how to prevent similar failures? My concern is that replacing the capacitors may be a stopgap, and that there may be other factors involved in the failures. For instance, if the power supply isn't providing power to the motherboard at spec, it may affect capacitor reliability. Humidity and temperature may also contribute, as may storage of these systems when not in use. Also, these capacitor failures may have other unintended effects elsewhere in the system. So, basically I'm asking for your experience and some ideas on what might be going on.
