Hi NS, I read through the link that you had provided. Thanks. If I understand bonds right, once you purchase the bonds, you can not sell them. You can redeem them losing 3 months interest and paying taxes on the remaining gains. The older 6-7% bonds are useful only to the people who bought it at that time. If I plan to encash my bonds after 5yrs and if my tax bracket is the same or higher, then I may be better off in investing in a Fixed Deposit for five years which gives me a 5% APR assuming the I-bonds remain at 4.4%, the current value. May 1st the bonds are going to have newer Interest rates - mostly lower. So is there something that we can do with this piece of information?
