Steve - assuming (perhaps wrongly) that your using a DSL gateway router you should refer to the routers vendor website for VPN setup. We use Westell ADSL routers and their UK website is excellent for setting their routers up, but I believe most vendors will offer readme's to assist you. It is not rocket science for basic VPN connectivity. Setup the type of access PPP or IPsec, setup a user (on the gateway) to access the gateway remotely and ensure passwords are secure.....this is assuming your router has VPN capability !!! If you're in the UK you can call me.
