Danny,

Did something similar at the weekend except Windows 2000 not 2003
The other thing was that I was given a blank system and a backup tape, no
documentation!

I did the following with surprisingly good results (ie. completely working
system!)
Reloaded Win2K
Restored System State
Installed Exchange in DR Mode
Started Services
Restored database
Mounted Store

The difference I can see is that you are deleting the MDBdata directory whereas
I had nothing.

I wonder what would happen if you were to 'uninstall' exchange and then
re-install in DR mode?

...Spence

Subject: [exchangelist] Unable to restore with NTBackup - "Failed to
find a database to restore"

http://www.MSExchange.org/ <http://www.MSExchange.org/>

Trying to do a test restore with NTBackup on a Windows Server 2003,
but I am experi.e.ncing nothing but failures. Exchange Server 2003.

To prepare for the test restore, I performed an online backup with
NTBackup. Then I deleted the contents of the MDBDATA directory. Now I
am trying to restore.

1) I have dis-mounted the mailbox and public folder
2) Enabled the DB's to be overwritten by restore
3) Followed all the suggestions outlined within the MS help files
(most aren't relevant, as per usual), except for Q296841 (ADSI edit
method)
