May, Regarding this problem, do you, by any chance, have a Firebox Firewall? If you do, Microsoft has an article about how the Firebox strips ESMTP information in such a way as to make messages undeliverable. The solution is to NOT use an SMTP Proxy but instead to use an SMTP Filter. What we did was use an SMTP Proxy for inbound email and an SMTP Filter for outbound. These settings are all configured within the firewall itself and you'll need to contact the Firebox people for more detailed info on EXACTLY how to do it step-by-step if you're not sure.
