Hello,

Yes it does. Your mail essentials SMTP server will answer on port 25, do
any processing you have defined, such as spam filtering or antivirus
scanning, and then send the mail to the Exchange Server's SMTP on the
alternate port you have defined. It will also let you use the pop
downloader and again it will forward the mail on to the Exchange Server
running on the alternate port. I have used Mail essentials for 3 years
set up like this on an exchange 5.5 server.

Does that mean I'd be able to put GFI Mail Essentials on the same server
as the Exchange 5.5 server?

        Hello,

You can switch the ports the exchange 5.5 is using for SMTP and
avoid having to change the MX records. Look up:

         http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;173903

This allows you to use GFI Mail essentials on port 25. You then
have to configure mail essentials to use the new port that you decided
on for exchange.

        http://www.MSExchange.org/

        Hi All,

I'm setting up GFI Mail Essentials for use with our Exchange 5.5
server. This cannot be on the same server unless you're using Exchange
2000, so i'm installing it on our Web Server machine (I don't have the
budget to put up a new server, and this should serve the purpose).

Our DNS's MX record currently points to mail.tcr-ny.com (the
domain is tcr-ny.com)

I guess I need to change that to the web server (and leave
mail.tcr-ny.com as the fallback), right? Would I have the entry just
read something like this:

        tcr-ny.com mail exchanger = 10 www.tcr-ny.com

        tcr-ny.com mail exchanger = 20 mail.tcr-ny.com

        ??

Anyone have any help on this? I'm new to messing with MX
records!

        Thanks,
