We moved our exchange 2000 standard edition DC and GC server to new member
server by following the link
http://www.swinc.com/resource/e2kfaq_appxa.htm.

performed all the steps to create replicas of public folder on the new
server and created replicas of public folders and system folders.

We did not uninstalled/removed the old server we kept it online as it has
some of the mailboxes (16 GB being the limit of standard edition).

lately, we upgraded our domain to windows 2003 domain by adding a new
windows 2003 machine and upgraded it to DC. we also upgraded the new
exchange 2000 standard server to exchange 2003 enterprise edition.
Everything is works fine except for OWA.
NOTE: Old exchange 2000 on windows 2000 DC still online

Each time the user logs in to OWA and clicks the Public Folders button a
new window opens which shows all the public folders in the Exchange 2000
OWA view and the address is automatically changed to
http://oldservername/public.

if i type http://newservername/public its in OWA 2003 view.perfect!

yesterday the old server's MTA service was stopped as there was only 5 MB
free space left on the hard drive. Mail flow was OK. but we could not open
the Public folder it says "unable to open....". STRANGE!!.We freed up
space on hard drive and managed to bring it online

Now we want to remove exchange 2000 (old server) and demote the machine to
member server as we dont have 16 GB limit restriction on exchange 2003
server enterprise edition. We want to go with only 1 exchange 2003
enterprise edition member server and 1 windows 2003 DC.

i plan to run "Remove" from the exchange 2000 setup and uninstall exchange
2000 server.BUT WHAT ABOUT PUBLIC FOLDERS ?. will it be safe or do i need
to follow some extra steps so that my public folders are safe. i dont know
how to go about it and i dont want to loose my public folders.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
THANKS...
