To resolve this issue follow the steps below:

1. Open the "Group Policy" (if your Exchange 2000 Server is a domain controller, you must open the Default Domain Controllers Policy) and go to Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Local Policies, User Rights Assignment, go to properties of the "Take ownership of files or other objects" right. Add the Administrator account if not present.Install the Adminpak.msi from WINNT\SYSTEM32.Click on Start, Run and type MMC. Click OK.Add the "Active Directory Schema" snap inRight mouse click on "Active Directory Schema" Go to "Operation Master" and enable the check box "The Schema may modified on this domain controller"

2. Install the Adminpak.msi from WINNT\SYSTEM32.Click on Start, Run and
type MMC. Click OK.Add the "Active Directory Schema" snap inRight mouse
click on "Active Directory Schema" Go to "Operation Master" and enable
the check box "The Schema may modified on this domain controller"

3. Click on Start, Run and type MMC. Click OK.Add the "Active Directory
Schema" snap inRight mouse click on "Active Directory Schema" Go to
"Operation Master" and enable the check box "The Schema may modified on
  this domain controller"

4. Add the "Active Directory Schema" snap inRight mouse click on
"Active Directory Schema" Go to "Operation Master" and enable the check
box "The Schema may modified on this domain controller"

5. Right mouse click on "Active Directory Schema" Go to "Operation
Master" and enable the check box "The Schema may modified on this
  domain controller"

6. Go to "Operation Master" and enable the check box "The Schema may
  modified on this domain controller"

After this you must perform a restart of this server and you will be able to finish the setup /forestprep.

Subject: [exchangelist] Forestprep Error !!

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hello
I have only one Windows 2000 Server SP4 Domain Controller and a Windows 2000 Server SP4 member server with Exchange 2000 Server SP3 installed. The Domain Controller have the 5 FSMO roles of the forest.

The windows 2000 domain and exchange 2000 organization are in native mode.

I run forestprep from the domain controller to upgrade the active directory schema before install Exchange Server 2003 and receive the fallowing error:

I search in Microsoft Knowledge Base about that error but don't find anything.

I think that is a permission problems in the GAL but I don´t know where to look.

Can anyone help me to resolve that please ?
