I agree!  The more specific, the less accurate.  There are so many factors.

Personally, I can't stand the "magen" grades.  Some (in some schools many) 
students put more energy trying to "negotiate" higher grades than they do 
in their studies.  I've had students insist that their success is up to 
me.  "Ha kol talu'i bach, hamorah."  Fifty-five passing is ridiculously low 
as it is.  I think it's pathetic that a kid would need the points from 
classwork/teachers/magen to get there.  Passing them when they know barely 
50% of the material doesn't give them enough knowledge to do well with 
harder material in English the following year.  It may be ok in subjects 
that are self-contained, never needed and erased from the brain after the test.
