I haven't taught it yet, but the next time I have a 12th grade 5 point
class, I think I'll teach "A Raisin in the Sun". It's by a young, black,
female playwright. It is about a black family in a poor neighborhood. The
father has died and left the family a huge amount of insurance money. The
family has to decide how to spend it. each member has a different idea.
There are other conflicts that come up. Best of all, the ending is inspiring
rather than depressing.
