[etni] Use of the word hijack

This came up in class today.   Can you (correctly) say to hijack a car?  Or 
do you steal a car and kidnap the people in it? Or can those people be 
hijacked?   I remember hijack only being used for in air theft (as in 
airplanes obviously) but I think I have seen  hijack also referring to cars. 
What's the usage?
