*November 28 â Erela Keinan â "The Jewish Contribution from Broadway to
Hollywood - How a once -excluded Group Rose to Prominence on and Around the
Stage" â *Immigration, assimilation, integration, and prejudice are all
part of the multi-faceted and intricate story of this lecture. The saga of
this group of Jewish writers, composers, lyricist, directors, and producers
begins with roots in traditional Jewish music and slowly infiltrates the
sounds of universal music as a powerful art form that lasted throughout the
20th century. For example, Berlin, Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein, Rogers
and Hammerstein, and many others, were great talents who developed the
unique musical genre of the "American Musical." This lecture will be
accompanied by clips from well known, popular musicals, as well as other
rare visual features.
