----- Original Message ----- From: "David Graniewitz" <graniewitz@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: new contract for oral testing and bagrut examiners --strike call With all this talk of the Ministry again trying to take advantage of the good-hearted English teachers in its employ ie. the controversial contract being given to orla testers, isn't it about time that we oral testers took a leaf out of the Bagrut checkers' book and refused to work till our remuneration becomes commensurate with the work we do? As with the checkers' strike, the Ministry will be in a bind if we decide to down tools. We have to realise that right and might are on our side. I tested in 3 schools last year because of the lack of testers. It was time-consuming and exhausting (I hate having to be pleasant at the best of times -- having to keep it up for 3 hours at a stretch is torture for me ;) ) I am not going to send back the contract until things are sorted out in our favour. Am I on my own or are others also of the same mind? I realise that many might think that because of what is going on in the south now might not be the time to make waves, but if we don't organise action now it will be too late soon.
