----- Original Message ----- From: tessa shrem - tessashrem@xxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: new contract for oral testing and bagrut examiners I almost signed the ktav minui, but after reading Sharon's posting, I read it and was absolutely shocked at the belligerence and threatening tone used. I wonder how many teachers actually DO read the contract we sign every year. Most of us simply shrug our shoulders and moan and groan to each other about how the Ministry exploits the teachers who have to do the testing on their day off with very little remuneration. And sometimes with no remuneration at all - a few years ago, they changed the form and whoever had filled in the wrong form didn't get paid. Last year, it appeared that many teachers sent their ktav minui to the wrong address, to the testing department in Jerusalem instead of to Kiryat Ono. Naturally those teachers didn't get paid. But hey presto - maybe the Ministry realized that some teachers would refuse to test - last week I received a notification of payment from the Ministry for the testing I did a year ago. It seems that there is a line of communication between Jerusalem and Kiryat Ono after all. But where was the interest on my money that they had been holding for an entire year? ( A trifling amount to be sure, but we're talking about principles here) The conditions and the indignities under which we work have become absolutely intolerable. But as long as we accept them and don't even implement sanctions that the Irgun Hamorim imposes while it tries to improve our lot, we can only expect the situation to get worse. You might not be aware of it, but there is a legal battle going on at present between the irgun and the Education Ministry concerning our work as bagrut examiners. At present, we are "independent" and have no rights of pension etc. The Irgun has been trying to see that we get certain basic rights as workers. It is now a case in the courts. In our new contract, it says that we agree that in the event that the court - or any other body, decides that we are indeed workers with rights, we agree to get only 34% of our pay and we will return 34% of the pay we received "from the beginning our connection with the Ministry of Education according to this contract!" (whatever that means). I don't see why we should agree to sign a document that undercuts the irgun position in court. I've sent a copy to the irgun, and I suggest we don't sign until we get instructions. ----------------------------------------------- Call for Articles The Etni Rag needs you ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
