Each link below displays a sequence of 14 - 22 cartoons from that issue of *The
New Yorker *magazine. Most of the cartoons have captions. You can eliminate
the captions and give or display suitable cartoons to your class so they
can create appropriate captions, individually or preferably in small
groups. Collect the captions and have the class vote of which is the best
one for each cartoon. Consider converting each cartoon you want to use into
a PowerPoint slide that can be displayed.
If you need to explain why a cartoon is funny, this probably indicates a
difference in Israeli & US cultures that you can explain. Most of the
cartoons will seem funny to both Hebrew and English speakers.

For example, there is a cartoon without a caption showing 3 apartments in a
row. There is nothing behind the door of apt 1D. Apt 2D is flat on the
ground. There is a rectangular parallelepiped (a cuboid) behind the door of
apt 3D. This, of course, is a mathematical joke.

My caption would be: "When can we see apt 4D?"
Shades of Brigadoon.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigadoon and
