Together we are launching a new call on 'Innovative Systems Toxicology for Alternatives to Animal Testing', in short InnoSysTox. Aim of the joint call - Development of innovative systems-biology-based 3R methods in toxicology and/or - Application of new and existing systems-biology-based 3R methods in toxicology Who is eligible to apply? Germany: Applications may be submitted by universities, non-university research institutes, Land and Federal institutions with research responsibilities, and by commercial companies based in Germany, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs - in accordance with the European Union's definition[1]). Research institutes which receive joint basic funding from the Federal Government and the Länder can only be granted project funding for additional expenditure under certain conditions. Universities, independent research institutes and suchlike, and businesses, especially SMEs, are eligible to apply. Up to 100% funding for research institutes and universities will be awarded on the basis of full economic costs as described on the BMBF website at the time of the call. Industrial participants will receive up to 50% funding under standard BMBF conditions on the basis of actual costs. The Netherlands: The call is open to researchers in the public and private sectors. Dutch research institutes include the research universities, universities of applied science (HBO), University Medical Centres, institutes of the NWO and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and TNO. Dutch research institutes must meet the following criteria: - the institute must be based in the Netherlands; - the institute must be tasked with conducting independent research; - the institute must be not-for-profit; - researchers must be free to publish in the international academic literature. Funding across borders is not permitted. Sums available A total budget of up to M€2.9 is available for the call. ZonMw will contribute up to M€1.4 of this sum and will allocate grants to the Dutch groups. BMBF will contribute up to M€1.5 and allocate grants to the German groups. Each joint project consortium may apply for: - a maximum budget of k€750; - a joint project timescale of a maximum of three years.
