Birding continues to be good at various elevations along Max Patch Road,
Haywood County. At the approx 3500' level Golden-winged Warblers are still
very active and viewable, the one pictured here was just north of Turkey Trot
Rd. on the right. At lower elevations before MPR turns into gravel, it was
nice to see Yellow-breasted Chats and Common Yellowthroats along the side of
the road. Kirk Gardner discovered this location on Saturday with his keen eyes
and ears. The location is about 1.5 miles before MPR turns into gravel on the
upslope side of the road in a pullout full of blackberry brambles. I feel
sure this is private land but birding from the road or just inside the pullout
is probably fine. The coordinates are 35-42-16 N and 82-55-48 W. Indigo
Bunting and Chestnut-sided Warbler were also seen at the pullout. A few photos
are attached.
