RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITIONS
Educational Testing Service

How often have you had the opportunity to be a founding member of a team
tasked with solving big scientific problems through innovative technology?
Would you like to know more about how computer vision, affective computing,
and machine learning are helping create new forms of educational
assessments and learning tools? If this sounds intriguing, then we’d like
to talk to you about a role on a new ETS R&D team tackling a set of
problems requiring significant innovation.

Headquartered in Princeton, NJ, ETS is the world’s premier educational
measurement institution and a leader in educational research. As an
innovator in developing achievement and occupational tests for clients in
business, education, and government, we are determined to advance
educational excellence for the communities we serve.

ETS Research & Development has openings for Research Scientists at all
levels in the Center for Advanced Psychometrics. This newly established
group is pursuing cutting edge multidisciplinary research in creating a new
generation of educational assessments targeting modern educational
paradigms including MOOCs, educational games, and various forms of
behavioral and in vivo assessments. We are conducting research on using
rich multi-sensory data and recent advances in computer vision, affective
computing, psychometric analysis, and cognitive science to build some of
most advanced dynamic models for educational assessment in authentic,
real-world scenarios. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a
research and development team and have a significant impact on the next
generation of educational assessments.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· PhD in Computer Science specializing in Affective Computing,
Computer Vision, HCI or related areas.

· Publication record in top-tier international research venues in
Affective Computing, Computer Vision and HCI.

· Expertise in Machine Learning, Visual Computing and Learning areas
such as facial expression and affect recognition, activity recognition,
deep learning, multiple sensory data fusion.

· Familiarity with linear algebra and manipulating data using matrix
algorithms. Ability to build and interpret probabilistic models of complex,
high-dimensional systems.

· Solid programming experience utilizing Matlab, Python, Java, C, C++.

· Pursue or collaborate in interdisciplinary projects, transferring
techniques to a new context or connecting scientific fields that are
usually separate. Successful candidates are self-motivated and self-driven.

· Provide scientific and technical skills to conceptualize, design,
obtain support for, conduct, and manage new research projects, grants, or
parts of existing projects.

· Generate or contribute to new or modified theories of educational,
psychological, and assessment processes, and psychometric research.

· Design and conduct scientific studies, functioning as an expert in
the major facets of the projects; respond as a subject matter expert in
presenting the results of acquired knowledge and experience. Consult and
collaborate on problems arising from research and/or testing programs, or
corporate management concerns.

· Develop or assist in developing proposals for external and internal
research grants and obtain financial support for new or continuing research
activities. Prepare initial and final proposal and project budgets.

· Participate in dissemination activities through the publications of
research papers in peer review journals and in the ETS Research Report
series, the issuing of progress and technical reports, the presentation of
seminars at major conferences and at ETS, or the use of other appropriate
communication vehicles, including books and chapters, that impact practice
in the field or at ETS
