ETS Research & Development has openings for Research Scientists at all levels in the Center for Advanced Psychometrics. This newly established group is pursuing cutting edge multidisciplinary research in creating a new generation of educational assessments targeting modern educational paradigms including MOOCs, educational games, and various forms of behavioral and in vivo assessments. We are conducting research on using rich multi-sensory data and recent advances in computer vision, affective computing, psychometric analysis, and cognitive science to build some of most advanced dynamic models for educational assessment in authentic, real-world scenarios. REQUIRED SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES · PhD in Computer Science specializing in Affective Computing, Computer Vision, HCI or related areas. · Publication record in top-tier international research venues in Affective Computing, Computer Vision and HCI. · Expertise in Machine Learning, Visual Computing and Learning areas such as facial expression and affect recognition, activity recognition, deep learning, multiple sensory data fusion. · Familiarity with linear algebra and manipulating data using matrix algorithms. Ability to build and interpret probabilistic models of complex, high-dimensional systems. · Solid programming experience utilizing Matlab, Python, Java, C, C++. · Pursue or collaborate in interdisciplinary projects, transferring techniques to a new context or connecting scientific fields that are usually separate. Successful candidates are self-motivated and self-driven. · Provide scientific and technical skills to conceptualize, design, obtain support for, conduct, and manage new research projects, grants, or parts of existing projects. · Generate or contribute to new or modified theories of educational, psychological, and assessment processes, and psychometric research. · Design and conduct scientific studies, functioning as an expert in the major facets of the projects; respond as a subject matter expert in presenting the results of acquired knowledge and experience. Consult and collaborate on problems arising from research and/or testing programs, or corporate management concerns. · Develop or assist in developing proposals for external and internal research grants and obtain financial support for new or continuing research activities. Prepare initial and final proposal and project budgets. · Participate in dissemination activities through the publications of research papers in peer review journals and in the ETS Research Report series, the issuing of progress and technical reports, the presentation of seminars at major conferences and at ETS, or the use of other appropriate communication vehicles, including books and chapters, that impact practice in the field or at ETS · Develop professional relationships as a representative, consultant or advisor to external advisory and policy boards and councils, research organizations, educational institutions and educators. · Consult on ETS projects or external contracts that related to the research focus of the group. REQUIREMENTS FOR JUNIOR-LEVEL POSITIONS A Doctorate in computer science specializing in the areas of Computer Vision, Affective Computing, Human Computer Interfaces or related fields. Research experience in educational games and simulations, is a plus. Candidates should be very skilled in programming and be able to work effectively as a research team member.
