Hello Pele, Yes, I can see what you mean about Geraldine B changing the parson's name but she admits at the end of the book that Parson Mompesson, the real man, was "Saintly" and the character she creates in her book is not. Well, in one major way is not. However, should you ever decide you want a text copy.... Take care, Elaine that -----Original Message----- From: ebooktalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ebooktalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Pele West Sent: Tuesday, 4 June 2013 1:12 AM To: ebooktalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ebooktalk] "Year of Wonders" Hi Trish I was really looking forward to reading "Year of Wonders", but I could not get on with it for two reasons: One was the reader, but I might some day solve that by reading the txt version, and the other was that Geraldine Brooks changed the name of the parson from Monpessan to Monpellian (sorry about the spelling). In the note at the end of the book she says she did this so that she could develop his character (or something like that). I have read and heard quite a lot about Eyam and found it difficult to cope with the name change. I might try again one day. Pele
