Hello George

Thanks for the honest and excellent information on the status of Megadots and DBT. That certainly makes the choice easy.

So are you saying that if I buy now, I will get a free upgrade if it is released within a year of my purchase? Now, is that within the calendar or a year from the purchase date?

Jean

Hi Jean,

I guess to be brutally honest, I should say that Megadots,
which was designed around DOS, has come to the end of it's
development cycle. 2.3 has just been released, and will be
the last Megadots. While having been made to work in
Windows, it cannot economically be developed further. It
has been an excellent program, and is still popular amongst
users, but it is very much showing its age.

On the other hand, DBT is designed specifically around
Windows, and the current version 10.5 will in the coming
months be superseded by 10.6. Development of DBT 10.# will
continue, while a new version is being developed very much
with Windows Vista in mind. We are assured this new
development will incorporate many of the good points of
Megadots, brought up to date with modern programming
methods.

Also, an important consideration is that buyers are entitled
to free upgrades of DBT during the first year. I'm afraid
you won't get that with Megadots, other than for any fixes
to "show stoppers".

George Bell.

I'm new to the list and am contemplating buying either
DBT or Megadots.
Based on the website descriptions, I can't really decide
which one might be
better. Well, they're probably both good, but I don't
really know what the
differences are.

If anyone is familiar with both, I'd love to hear your
thoughts. Or, if you
really like or dislike one, I'd like to hear that, too.

Jean
