Jean: dummy code: in DBT ctrl-[ then just put a forward slash in in the code boxes. In Word this can be entered as [[*/*]] if you use the feature of embedding codes in the Word document. I find this quite a handy code to use when you want to break contractions. ?However I have just tested with 1.11 and saving as a .doc file (docx files can do funny things with italics). By ensuring that the space between the two italicised words is not in italics, the italics are coming out properly. ? As far as the Latin being uncontracted I am unsure what is happening. It contracted for me in an example that I quickly set up. I would really be interested in seeing the section of your Word file that this is occurring in to see if we can nut out what is happening. The language settings were English, and I eventually gave up and did it with Exact translation ASCII characters. That should eliminate the issue with the Latin names. Second: Try ensuring that the space between the two words has the italics removed. If this doesn't work, put in what I call a dummy code [/] between the words to break the italics sequence, you will still need the space though. Good luck! What is the code to use to force a contraction? I have a vague recollection it has to do with slashes, but I can't find it. The reason for wanting this is I have an italicized group of two words followed by an unspaced dash and more text. DBT is putting the italic passage indicator in front of the first word, and the end italic passage after the second word. That's not right. Complicating this is that these words are bacteria names, and DBT recognizes them as Latin and wants to uncontract them. The agency wants them contracted. Therefore, I need to enter the italic codes as Exact Translation . But DBT is still uncontracting the words. If I could remember that shortcut for forcing contractions, it would save me looking up those SymBraille exact contraction characters for the rest of the word.
