I have had all my horses and ponies barefoot now for about 3 years and have
been very happy with the results. Their feet have improved greatly, they are
stronger and we have had no problems. If I ride or drive them where they are
uncomfortable I use boots. Actually the only time I had to do that was in
Acadia, Me. I don't worry about snow packing in their feet because it
doesn't. I take my pony out sleighing and have had no problems with traction.
When I tried out a new carriage a while ago I was a little worried because we
had to go up a fairly steep paved slippery driveway. I didn't need to worry,
she just trotted us the hill fine.
A number of friends have also gone this route and all are very happy with the
results. A big plus, and not the reason I did it, is no big shoeing bills!
