Hi Sharon
Yes have already read it. A good read. This is the second book about
Bill. I went to the book launch in Melbourne for the first one a few
years ago but was not able to attend the second book launch. I am in
regular contact with Bill and Lynette Silver the co-author.
Regards
Allan

Hi All,
Put in my order on my Christmas list for a copy of the new release "My Life as a
Teenage POW" by Lynette Silver and Billy Young. The story of Billy Youngs life
through his childhood in Hobart and the slums of Sydney during the depression years, his
enlistment in the AIF at the age 15, cold, hungry and looking for somewhere to get a
feed, capture Singapore and survival of the horrors of Sandakan POW camp, Borneo and
torture in Outram Road goal. He is the only one of the few survivors of these two awful
places still left alive. I read his first book but this one is more comprehensive and I
am enjoying it although not very far into it as yet. Reading of his childhood struggles
during the depression years explains how he managed some of his exploits as a top class
scrounger when imprisoned at Sandakan.
Billy tells his stories and Lynette uses her research skills to delve into
archives, newspaper reports etc to find the detailed reports of his memories,
adding flesh to the bones of his story.
Anyone who has an interest in this time period in history or who lost a family
member at Sandakan or Outram Road will find this a very informative read.
Definitely one for you Allan.
Sharon
