[dokuwiki] acl.auth.php & users.auth.php

Hi,
I am working my way through problems caused by my hosting service and what I
think is a sour server... I have done an upgrade on the wiki to be sure that
the functional files are not corrupt. It fixed some bugs but now I have a
user list problem.
I copy both the conf/acl.auth.php and conf/users.auth.php files from my
backup to the server. When I go to the user admin area it still shows only
myself as the superuser. Am I missing something?
