I have checked that http://yourserver.com/dokuwiki/data/pages/wiki/dokuwiki.txt
is no more accessible but I want to achieve the appropriate security settings
by tweaking .htaccess file (without moving the files/tampering the directory
structure).
Could you please help?

Are you talking about this page:
<http://www.dokuwiki.org/security#move_directories_out_of_docroot>?
My guess would be that you moved it to a new location that is still web
accessible, and I thought the goal was to move it OUTSIDE the web tree? Our
wiki lives in /var/www/html/, but the data folder is /var/www/wikidata/, which
is "outside" the web accessible content in the 'html' folder. (Hope that
makes sense).
But as I said above, that is just a guess...
