Hi all.

Well, after contacting Apple tech support, it seems that the
firewire chip cannot be replaced. Not only would that void the warranty,
but, it supposedly can't be done because the chip is on the motherboard
directly. Also, interestingly enough, the two people I spoke to at apple
had no idea that the Agere chip caused so many issues with A V gear. I find
that hard to believe as there is a large number of forum/blog entries about
this very thing, even on apple's own web site.

So I guess now, my only option is to sell my white mac book and go
with a refurb or b stock mac book pro with the texas instruments firewire
chip.

I noticed on all the mac book and I mac product pages that one comes
across, it just says firewire 400 or 800, for example. It would make things
a heck of a lot easier for audio/video people if they would list the
specific firewire chip on the product page.

Even one of the people I spoke with at Apple said that they didn't
know the choice of chip caused issues. He thought that firewire is
firewire, which is what I thought, until recently.

What a headache this turned out to be.

Thanks,

Cameron.
