I am using Avast as my virous protection. What do you use?

  Neville, as I told you yesterday, when running WDM drivers, you may need to 
alter the slider in the audio options dialog box.  Failing that, try switching 
to ASIO drivers and go into the FW control panel and move the slider to 50%.  
This will give you latency of 5.8MS which should be still good enough for 
playing softsynthes.  If you still are getting pops and clicks at that setting 
then, there are a couple of other things to try.

  1: copy some projects that your running on your external drive to the second 
internal drive on your system and try running the projects from there.  I 
suspect that running the audio on an external drive could possibly be the 
issue.  Or, 2: go into the FW1884 control panel and move the FW slider up to 
the next percentage.  Also, you shouldn't need to alter IO settings from what 
we set them too.  Finally, if your running any antivirus such as Norton then, 
that will bog your system down quite a bit.
