Hi brian,
when you scrubb with the project mix, are you able to select the from and
through times, and zoom as well?
I use to own a project mix, and I can't remember if you are able to do these
things, and are you able to go through aux sends and tweek them through the
rotery knobs?
If that's the case I may end up thinking of getting one again, and ditching
the mackie console.

I also scrub with the ProjectMix, and haven't had a crash. My Tranzport
works well, also.
I'm, of course, using the most recent versions of everything.

Hi guys,
I promised a while back that I'd update folks who use the Tranzport
concerning random system crashes when scrubbing.
As you know, those of us using this device have been experiencing random
crashes in projects when going into Scrub Mode, and there doesn't appear
to be any obvious explanations as to why this happens. I've been in
contact with Tech Support at Frontier Design, and though the gentleman
who's been helping me with this situation has been very good about trying
to come up with a possible solution, he's been unable to resolve the
problem. He ran various scenarios on his end, but he was unable to crash
his system. Unfortunately he doesn't have JAWS and CakeTalking running,
which might provide some insight if he did. Nevertheless he was good about
letting me know that because he didn't have that additional software
running that he obviously wouldn't be able to duplicate the exact
conditions.
Having said that, my thoughts on this is that perhaps there's too much
going on with resources being used between Sonar, JAWS, and CakeTalking
when you start scrubbing with the Tranzport. I've found that even if I
freeze tracks, I still experience crashes now and then; it doesn't seem to
matter how big the project is. I've got three gigs of ram on my computer,
and it's a pretty fast machine to boot.
So, to make a long story slightly shorter, I decided that I'm no longer
going to scrub with the Tranzport. I've gotten pretty good with using the
scrub feature in the clips pane, and I'm not crashing the machine in the
process. I'll still use the Tranzport to scroll back and forth in projects
along with other things as I don't have any problems doing that. It's
really too bad as I love this device. If there was a way to change the
size of the scrub buffer on the Tranzport, perhaps that would clear up
some things. I figured out that I can adjust how much scrubbing occurs by
zooming in so I can be on the money with my editing. I can display as much
or as little audio as I need to suit what I'm doing in a project.
So there ya have it! If anybody else has any other ideas on this, I'd be
interested in what you're doing to deal with this quirk. Otherwise I guess
the best approach is to scrub with the features in CakeTalking.
