It was maybe two years after that, around 1983. As a matter of fact, there was an episode of the Cosby show where they got in a car accident with Stevie's limo and consequently got to hang in the studio with him where he did some sampling with the synclavier, of course it was make believe for the show but he did mention it. I'm sure New England Digital loved the free publicity, not that it did them any good.

Hi Gordon,

How far back are we going regarding Stevie having talking musical
Technology.
I'm finding all this really fascinating, would this have been around the
time of the Hotter than July Album?

Well, if I hadn't had the opticon I would have been in trouble. With the
opticon, I could read the terminal and even use the notation program, being
able to proofread my notation. Also, they had a script language for writing
out sequences which was sometimes really helpful. And you did need to run
utilities for formating disks and the like. At the time I had gotten in
touch with Stevie's keyboard tech and the manager for the beegees had
gotten in touch with me too since they had a blind keyboard player who has
since become a good friend of mine, George Bitzer.

Gord,

I saw the synclavier back in one of the first, if not the first, New York
NAMM sow in the Jacob/Javic Center back in 1982. Shortly after, I spoke
with the VP of IBM and Ray Kurzweil about the possibility of making a
talking LCD for all technology for the blind. Ray agreed, but was focused
on the Kurzweil Personal reader and Stevy's 250 at that time.

Just a change in subject line guys. My first foray into computerized music making was the synclavier, which in many ways has never been beaten in terms of usability. Everything was controled by this huge button pannel and one large spring-loaded knob on the keyboard unit itself as far as the synth and sequencer were concerned. Considering the processing they had at the time, the timing was rock solid and sound designing was (at least for me) a snap. There are times I seriously think of getting my hands on one now, even though the tone generators were 8 bit and prone to aliasing.

did anyone ever had the old Atari 1040? This was a 1 mega bite Computer.

In 1986 I used this system before moving to hardware sequencers, I believe
this may have been just before Kate Walk days.

I used this system for 3 Years, it did my head in so much, that I didn't go
near desktop Computers again for at least 15 Years.

Glad I have Sonar now.

The first version of "Pro Audio" I had was 5.0. Before that, I briefly used
Cakewalk Express. Before that, it was an ancient version of Cubase on the
Mac that was half-way accessible with OutSpoken.

Now get off my lawn! *smile*

Yep. That's how I got it, too. But I'll bet not many of us on this
list will admit to being old Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 users.

Hi, I upgraded from Cakewalk 9 Which included the encoder. So if you
had it thin, they will email it to you free or supply the link to
download it. I just recently done it. When I got it I saved it to a CD
for future installs or encases of system restores which removes some
programs depending upon how far you send your system back. Robert.

You can actually configure any mp3 encoder, but there's a certain
degree of tech ability needed to manually enter the settings.

Personally, I'd pay for the unlock code from Cakewalk if you have the
spare cash.

I paid for my version and it was set up in 2 seconds.

Cheers

Hi. I want to export to map files and when I attempt to do that,
Hear the encoder needs to be unlocked. What is the best way to go
about this procedure? Thanks allot.
