Perhaps you missed the following in the documentation?
"Note: If you do not hear notes play, press ALT+H, O and check a
different MIDI device under Hear | MIDI Output until you do hear
something. Usually, you will find at least the Microsoft Wavetable
device. You may need to close Lime and reopen it before it can
communicate with the MIDI output device."
