3 NEW MULTITRACKS!
-------------------------

More new multitracks for your delectation:

Although UK power-pop group Actions recently disbanded, their legacy lives on in multitrack form, with this great female-fronted song 'South Of The Water':

Following the runaway popularity of their first multitrack last month, here's a
second tune, 'Japan Song', from indie-rock phenomenon Dunning Kruger's
forthcoming EP: http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk.htm#DunningKruger

For hip-hop afficionados with a stout heart, here's the largest multitrack I've yet uploaded to the library -- all 97 tracks of ANiMAL's epic 'Clinic A':

DISCUSSION ZONE: BATTLING THE SPAMBOTS
---------------------------------------------------

It was perhaps inevitable that the Discussion Zone would be targeted by spambots the moment it went live, and so it has been. If you spot any spam posts, please report them so that I can remove them. Also, in an attempt to reduce the number of spambot registrations, I've started blocking certain suspicious IP addresses. If you think this might be preventing you from registering legitimately to use the Discussion Zone, then please let me know and I'll sign you up manually.

If you've not yet got involved with the Discussion Zone, here's the low-down:

D.I.Y. ACOUSTIC TREATMENT: LINKS UPDATE
--------------------------------------------------

Following feedback from some readers, I've just updated the Acoustics Products section of my Chapter 1 links page. So if you're interested in making your own
D.I.Y. acoustic treatment, check it out here:
http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-ch1.htm#links

In particular, note that the Ready Acoustics pre-sewn fabric bags appear now to have been removed from Ready Acoustics site, but Acoustimac still provide something very similar. Also, although the metal Chameleon Acoustic Frames I recommended in 'Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio' are still available, the D.I.Y. frames offered by ATS and Acoustimac both provide a more cost-effective
solution, so long as you're happy with a wooden construction.

--------------------------------------
AURATONE 5C IMPULSE RESPONSE
--------------------------------------

Earlier this month, reader Jim Mooney alerted me to the presence of an impulse response file for the Auratone 5C Super Sound Cube. For a download link, as well as some discussion of the usefulness of convolution for simulating this important secondary monitoring system, check out the updated Chapter 2 resources
page here: http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-ch2.htm#links

MIXING BASS: SOUND ON SOUND MAGAZINE COVER FEATURE
--------------------------------------------------------------------

If you can get hold of the current September issue of Sound On Sound magazine (http://www.soundonsound.com), you'll find it contains a big feature of mine about specialist mixing techniques for bass instruments. This includes many
references to well-known commercial productions and some little mixing
checklists which you might find useful. Here's the link to the online version (although, as per SOS policy, this only becomes public-domain in six months or
so): http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep12/articles/mixing-bass.htm

Note, however, that the article's associated media page is free to view even for
non-subscribers. This has 20-odd captioned audio examples, as well as
suggestions of library multitracks which provide a good testbed for practicing
your bass-mixing techniques:

----------------------------------
NEW 'MIX REVIEW' CRITIQUES
----------------------------------

Also in September's magazine is a fresh batch of Mix Review production
critiques, which include:

* Flo Rida: 'Good Feeling'
* Kelly Clarkson: 'Stronger'
* Michael Kiwanuka: 'Home Again'

You can read these (and all my previous Mix Review columns) for free here:
http://www.soundonsound.com/mixreview

 That's everything for this month. More treats in store...

Cheers,

Mike Senior.
