1. I was able to download both the installer version and the full version using 
a download manager. Nice.

2. I had trouble with the full version  because I got that non-talking blank 
screen.

3. I didn't try to extract the .exe file. I didn't think to try that.

4. I did run the installer file and it did update to version 6.2.

So all is well, and thanks for all your help and advice.

complete 6.2, or the upgrade?

  I downloaded only the 6.2 installer not the full 6.2 version. When I tried to 
install it (on both computers) I got a message that the download was corrupted. 
Since it took so long to download (unusually long) and I just got finished 
dealing with a virus, I didn't want to try to download the full 6.2. I'll wait 
a couple of weeks and see if there are bugs that need fixing.
