Bob, if you have Sonar 2 then, you will definitely have the Edirol VSC

Regarding uninstalling and reinstalling Sonar and CT, that would probably be the best thing. When you reinstall Sonar, there are a bunch of checkboxes in the Sonar install. They say things like, "programme files", "sample files", exedra. If you keep tabbing across the Sonar installer then, you will find various buttons that will say, "options button." These buttons follow the checkboxes in tab order. So, the first "options button", corresponds to the first option. The only one that doesn't have any options, is the first checkbox which says, "program files." That's because, there aren't any options for this particular checkbox, because, this checkbox, gives you the option to not install the Sonar application. So, in other words, it is possible to choose to install all of the various plug-ins and DXi instruments, without actually installing Sonar. I used to do this with Sonar 2 XL. I wanted to install the DR008 drum machine that shipped with Sonar 2 XL however, I didn't want to install Sonar 2 itself, because I was using a later version of Sonar.

Or, you may want to for example, install Sonar but no plug-ins or sample files. In that instance, you would uncheck those checkboxes in the Sonar installer.

I have done that here. I recently installed Sonar 4 and 5. However, rather than installing plug-ins for two versions of Sonar, I unchecked all of the checkboxes in the Sonar 4 installer, except for the Sonar 4 Producer application. I did this because all of the same plug-ins that ship with Sonar Producer 4, also ship with Sonar 5 Producer. Also, Sonar 5 Producer, comes with some extra plug-ins and softsynthes.

Then, when I installed Sonar Producer 5, I installed Sonar 5 and all of the various plug-ins. This still meant that I had all plug-ins available in all versions of Sonar that I have installed.

Now, getting back to the Sonar Producer 5 installer, if all of those boxes are checked then, you will have all options available to you. You can then go into each individual option from within the Sonar install, by pressing the spacebar or, enter key on each button in the Sonar installer that says "options button. Once in the option such as DXi, you can press the "select all button." I do this in a lot of the various options in the Sonar install because, for example, Sonar doesn't install all of the audio plug-ins that ship on the Sonar Producer 5 DVD by default.

I hope I wrote this out clearly enough for you. You will soon see what I mean, when you get into the Sonar Producer 5 installer. If you don't understand any of this or, you need more help then, write back or, give me a call. My phone number is up on my website.

Hi Phil. Thank you for responding. I'll check out the TTS-1 more carefully in case I missed the best.
I might buy the Edirol VSC anyway just to have it. I'm finding it on line for approximately $50.
about demos, perhaps I should uninstall Sonar and Cake Talking and start over to make sure I get everything?
Bob.

Hi Bob!!

I don't think the Edirol VSC has been in Sonar since Sonar 2.2. Regarding the Cakewalk TTS1 well, it's way better than the Edirol VSC ever was. In fact, the brass on it is excellent. I think the Cakewalk TTS1 is similar to the Roland Hyper Canvas. As I am sure you are already aware, Edirol are part of Roland.

Regarding the demos that are mention in the CT tutorials well, they are actually demos that are on he Sonar 5 DVD. Other synthe and audio plug-ins such as the Alien Connections Revalver SE, Dream Station DXi, and Cyclone all included on the Sonar 5 DVD. Nun of these are demo products. In fact, there are a ton of audio, MIDI and DXi instruments that may not be necessarily installed by default. In other words, when you install Sonar, only default plug-ins and synthes are installed by default. That's whey I always click on the options button for each item in the Sonar install dialog box and click on the all button.

Subject: [ddots-l] Edirol VSC and other soft synthes

Hello all. I am new to Sonar and midi work stations involving a PC so I apologize in advance for the basic nature of my questions over the next few months.
Please include chapter or page references with "RTM" responses.
I have read that the Edirol VSC emulates the Sound Canvas, the patches of which I have always appreciated. I bought Sonar 5 Producer and was surprised to discover that it is not available as a soft synthe. I have read that Cakewalk's TTS-1 apparently has Roland sounds which are pretty good but my MV30 has better brass. Is the Roland Groove Synthe meant to replace the Edirol even though it's geared to a specific musical style? Is there a place to get the Edirol VSC that Sonar 4 users have? Also, the Cake Talking tutorial mentions several demos that come with Sonar. Are they things like the Alien Connections, Dream Station and RXP included in the soft synthe insert list? If not, where are they located?
Thanks in advance.
Bob.
