I've been in contact with Native Instruments, and the general managers told
me that something like JAWS accessibility could take months, or maybe even
years, before it can come to fruition.

Subject: [ddots-l] Controlling Virtual Instruments with Scripts (possible
but far too much work for one person)

Controlling Virtual Instruments with Scripts (possible but far too much work
for one person) Greetings from Blue Mountains, Australia! I'm very pleased
to find the Dancing Dots forum and look forward to working with CakeTalking.
A little about me: I'm blind, use JAWS and would like to use Quantum Leap &
Kontakt virtual instruments. So far, I've been frustrated by the interfaces
to both programs: JAWS doesn't work.
Maybe we can make some progress this way with scripts?
Kontakt Scripts
Native Instruments publishes tutorials that show people how to write scripts
fairly clearly. I guess that scripts can operate a whole bunch of stuff; one
would hope that anything that could be clicked with a mouse could be
scripted with programming commands. If this is true, then maybe blind people
could ask NI for an accessible scripting window? More than this, NI should
be able to make the debugging process accessible to JAWS.
East West and Play Pro?
I've got a handful of Quantum Leap virtual instruments: totally useless for
the moment because I can't use JAWS to operate the controls. About a year
ago, EastWest announced an upgrade to the Play engine. Apparently, something
called Play 2 or Play Pro promises to give users access to a Python-like
scripting language. If this is so, then it might be possible to do something
with the virtual instruments via Python?
Scripting in CakeWalk
Has anyone had experience with CAL? Apparently CakeWalk has it's own
scripting language. I guess that the folks who invented CakeTalking know all
about it. If so, maybe the same folks could give us some clues about
operating music programs with scripts? Could some clever person/people write
an eccessible interface to Kontakt and/or Quantum Leap?
Well, nice to make my introduction, all the best to everyone,
James
