Russ,
I agree on the lawn poisons. That is why I dig out my dandilions by hand. I'm sure that the neighbors think that I am crazy. However, my lawn has salamanders, frogs, toads and turtles.
I disagree about your stance on house painting. I know a neighborhood where one seller had a very difficult time in selling their house. Their next-door neighbor had a wife who loved Elvis. And, Elvis loved pink and purple. So, their house was painted pink and purple. Imagine trying to live next door to that !!!!!

And most of the ones crying about the smokers are running big SUV's that have giant V8 and V10 mills that are used to run their 2.5 kids and occasionally soccer gear around - not pulling large construction or livestock trailers as the powerhouse was designed for - they just want the notariety of fitting in with the group they associate with. They also have trucks come to their homes and spray gallons of chemicals on their massive lawns to make it look like carpet totally ignoring the runoff and contact problems with the chemicals (until or inless one of their own children or pets is affected by the chemicals). The same group that tells people in the subdivision that they can't park outside of their garages nor paint the house they own a certain color scheme.
