Did all the problems start after you downloaded music?
Was it a ARI (Aristotle Audio File)?
Is IE7 installed? There was a report awhile back that IE7 caused Mcafee to show
a blank screen.
Here is the reported fix:

How do I Fix a Script Error When Scheduling a Scan?

Summary: This articles provides instructions on fixing a script error when
scheduling a scan using VirusScan. A script error may occur when trying to
schedule an automatic scan while the Task Scheduler is disabled. Below is an
example of this error:
Description

This error is generated because an underlying Win32 API relating to the Task
Scheduler fails with an error code of '0x8007007a: The data area passed to a
system call is too small'. Microsoft has admitted this to be a known issue on
some configurations, as indicated by MS KB article 264522. The buffer used to
show user credentials is very small, and systems with more than 3-4 tasks might
experience this error.

However, the solution described in the 'resolution' portion of the MS KB
article does not always work. There are a number of steps that might
individually or collectively lead to a solution. These steps are described in
the 'Solution' section below.

If you've received this script error when trying to schedule a scan, do the
following to enable the Task Scheduler:
Solution

  1. Install the Microsoft patch for Task Scheduler. This fixes some known
issues and upgrades the MS task Scheduler to a newer version. This patch can be
obtained by contacting Microsoft support and stating that you need the hot-fix
for article Q812400 and upcoming article Q812960. A free support case will be
created for you to get the update. All this will be done by Microsoft.
  2. Once the patch is installed, try to schedule a scan. If it does not work,
proceed to the next step.
  3. If you don't have a password for your Windows account, you must create a
password for it. If the user account is not an administrator of the machine,
create a password for the Administrator account. Restart the computer, then try
to schedule a scan. If it does not work, proceed to the next step.
  4. Open the task scheduler window (Start ? ControlPanel ? Task Scheduler).
Delete any tasks that can be safely deleted. Safe to delete tasks include all
McUpdate tasks, any existing VirusScan Schedule Scan tasks, any tasks
pertaining to users that no longer exist on that machine, and in general any
tasks that might seem superfluous. Once deleted, restart the computer and log
on. Then wait for 30 minutes while leaving the machine turned on. Make sure
that the machine does not go into stand-by or hibernate mode. A garbage
collection routine in the task scheduler service runs after 20-25 min and frees
up all the memory of the tasks deleted earlier. Now try to schedule a scan.

Note: The solutions described here might or might not work for some users.
Please contact technical support if you continue to have issues.
