Telnet is a terminal emulation program for TCP/IP networks such as the
internet. Telnet runs on your computer and connects to a server on the
network. You can then enter commands through the program and they will be
executed as if you were entering them on the server console. Telnet is a
common way to remotely control web servers. This info was found at
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/T/Telnet.htm.

I learned a little bit bout telnet at the Library of Congress Information
System located at telnet://140.147.254.3 . You can navigate around the site
by typing in certain commands.
