Hello, One of the more disturbing scams I found when looking at the http://www.consumeraffairs.com site (which is accessible via the scambusters website) was a variation on the "free money" theme. This particular scam - or group of scams - claim that the government is giving away money. Some claim you can register to win a free $5000 scholarship for 1) any college, university, or education program (GED), 2) to pay off your student loans, or 3) give away to a family member (http://www.freescholarshipguide.com). Others (http://www.gov-grants.com) claim there are over 40,000 grants available to taxpayers which their "Professional Grant Experts" want to describe to you in a directory ($20 - $60 each). These scams are costing consumers who are trying to find scholarships, grants, or small business loans hundreds to thousands of dollars. I felt that the scholarship scam might be a good one to mention since many of us are receiving financial aid or looking into other alternat ives to finance our education.
