For anyone who may be interested in obtaining Purple Martin gourds:
The widow of a former Purple Martin colony host has gourds for sale.
Mr Sartain had a large colony for many years between the Austin Springs
bridge and Rocky Mount. He passed away last year.
The gourds for sale are unused, natural gourds. Some have holes cut,
others don't. The ones already cut should be ready to hang for this season.

cost: $4.25 ea - with holes cut, $3.00 without holes.
You may be able to negotiate a better price, especially for a bulk purchase.
It sounded like she had a garage full & wanted to clear them out.
I have not seen these, so cannot speak to quality, but Mr Sartain had good
success with the same type gourds.
