Highlights of the Roan Mtn. Naturalists' Rally this morning:

N. Parula: pair nest-building at state park, using Usnea lichen (aka "old
man's beard"),
nest only about 12 ft above ground; found yesterday by Brookie & Jean Potter.
These
birds put on a great show!!

Also, close looks at a Northern Red Salamander.

Other Birds:
Ruby-thr. Hummingbird - female gathering cattail "fluff" for nest.
Least & Acadian Flycatchers
Blue-hd. & Red-eyed Vireos
Red-br. Nuthatch
Winter Wren
Ruby-cr. Kinglet
Wood Thrush
Ovenbird
Golden-wg. Warbler
Am. Redstart
Chestnut-sd. Warbler
Canada Warbler
Scarlet Tanager
Rose-br. Grosbeak
Pine Siskin
plus other common species.

About a dozen birders in group.
Light rain held us up for a while, but we birded from the picnic shelter
until the rain slacked.
