Brookie and Jean Potter, Rob Biller, Tom McNeil, Rick Knight, Jackie Hinshaw and Bryan Stevens birded on Saturday morning at Sycamore Shoals between some brief rain showers. Some of the better birds included a Cape May Warbler singing in the parking lot, as well as Yellow-breasted Chats, Magnolia Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Warbling Vireo, White-eyed Vireos, Solitary Sandpiper, Indigo Buntings and two Wood Ducks. Some other birds included a pair of American Kestrel, Canada Geese, Cedar Waxwings, Eastern Kingbird, House Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Eastern Bluebird, Tree Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jay, American Crow, Carolina Chickadee, Carolina Wren, Eastern Towhee, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, American Goldfinch, European Starling, Brown-headed Cowbirds and Common Grackle. Oddly enough, no Yellow-crowned Night-herons on the nests at the usual nesting tree, and we didn't see any others while birding the park. Bryan Stevens, Hampton, TN
