Area Birders,'
The numbers in my yard this morning were not up to the 47 species I had
yesterday, but I still managed to see 34, with 17 of those being migrants. I
think the cloud cover that moved in shortly after sunrise had some effect on
bird movement.
When I stepped out this morning I came face to face with a Canada Warbler
only a few feet away in the apple tree. He moved on quickly. As the morning
progressed I added the following migrants: an American Redstart (immature
male), 1 Blackburnian Warbler, 2 Black-throated Greens, 1 Chestnut-sided, 1
Magnolia in the bird bath, 3 Northern Parulas, 5 Tennessees, 2
Yellow-throated Warblers, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 1 Brown Thrasher, 1 Northern
Mockingbird, 4 Northern Flickers, 5 Ruby-throats, 1 Scarlet Tanager, 1
Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 15 American Robins and 2 American Crows. Except for
the Magnolia all of these birds were seen before 9:00 AM. I still have one
warbler on video I'm trying to I D.
If the birds live up to their past movements the Warbler Watch scheduled for
our place on Saturday should be a great one. The members of the local bird
clubs should get a treat.
May your fall birding days be as good as mine.
