The Virginia Highlands Festival hits full stride Saturday, July 31, with a two-week run of exciting events in and around Abingdon, Va. Here are two of this weekend's birding events: Creeper Trail Bird Walk (7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31) Bristol Bird Club member Wallace Coffey leads this leisurely bird identification walk on the Virginia Creeper Trail. This is the festival's most popular and longest-running outdoors event ! Plan to walk about just under a mile and bring binoculars. Meet at the locomotive at the trailhead. The Virginia Highlands Festival Event Explore One of Virginia's Birding and Wildlife Trails (8-10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1) To begin the hike, meet Roger Mayhorn of the Russell County Birding Club and Larry McDaniel of the Bristol Bird Club at the Raven Ridge Campground (take Route 80 North of Abingdon to the top of Clinch Mountain).
