BBC Vice-President Dave Worley announced tonight (16 Feb 2010) that Lisa Tyler had recently sent him a message resigning as a member of the club due to personal reasons. Dr. John Moyle suggested that Worley should lead the club until a nominating committee is appointed at the usual time and an election held. His suggestion met with approval of those attending the February meeting. The weatherman was very good to BBC tonight and those attending found very favorable travel conditions and virtually dry roads. Worley drove his usual 50 miles from Rosedale, Va and reported clear roads and good driving. Members returned home with conditions improving throughout the evening. Faye Wagers, of Kingsport, joined the club and attended her first meeting. John Hay asked for suggestions for future programs and Rick Knight agreed to be the March speaker. He will talk about birds from several of his western field trips. Wallace Coffey said he was in the process of getting a Ph.D. graduate student to be a Stephen M. Russell Graduate Lecture and talk about research of nesting Bald Eagles in Virginia. He suggested holding the April program open for the lectureship. The lecture series has been presented by three previous students. Worley said that the BBC annual spring weekend at Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott Co., VA has now been set to an annual date with the State Division of Parks and will be held each year on the 3rd weekend of May. The club has a formal agreement with the parks but the event is now being set to a more favorable date for public participation. It includes the lodge and all rooms and facilities being provided to BBC free in exchange for the club leading public field trips on that weekend. Dr. Moyle and Worley are working on details for the BBC's 20th annual winter Golden Eagle Field Trips to Burke's Garden in Tazewell Co., Va. The first trip was held 23 Feb 1991, under the leadership of BBC President Ken Hale. This year's trip is tentatively set for this coming Saturday, 20 Feb, pending reasonable weather and dependable road access to the high mountain valley. Worley said he and Moyle will monitor the situation and a decision will be made Friday. The determination of whether the trip is a go or not will be posted to Bristol-Birds Net by either Worley or Moyle on Friday. Members were told that the High Country Audubon Society, which covers Watauga, Avery, Ashe, Wilkes, and Alleghany counties in North Carolina, has asked BBC to join with them on a waterfowl field trip to the Northeast Tennessee birding areas. Moyle, who is chair of the BBC field trips, will help work on a date for that purpose. In old business, Worley said he would soon get caught up on the status of planning for the joint VSO/TOS spring meeting at Bristol for 2012 and would soon appoint committee members. Moyle also presented a neat program with excellent photos of his many trips to Africa and the animals of the East African savannas. Those attending (*indicates those having dinner at the Mad Greek) included: Diana Worley, David Worley, Fred Martin, Janice Martin, Faye Wagers, Jacki Hinshaw*, Rick Knight*, Polly Moyle*, John Moyle*, Roy Knispel*, Michele Villeneuve, Don Leach, Carolyn Coffey*, Wallace Coffey*, John Hay and Charlie Powell.
