South Holston Lake
Washington Co., VA
Avens Bridge Area

It appears the Bald Eagle nest, located upstream from Avens Bridge,
may now have young. While there this afternoon, an adult bird was
on the nest. However, neighbors report that both birds are now
leaving the nest at the same time and that the adults seemed to
enjoy an exercise of chasing each other over the lake surface. They
said it all seemed playful. In the past couple of years, both adults would
be away from the nest for extended periods but were usually within sight
of the nest -- often perched on a branch a couple of hundred yards away.
