Hi,
A few things and clarifications:
* You need NVDA 2013.1 or its dev version to use Apex as a braille display. * NVDA not only supports Apex, but all other BN family is supported. * There is a bug with Apex where you cannot type key combinations with dot 7 when typing text in braille terminal mode when used with NVDA. * Contrary to popular lore, in case of NVDA, the NVDA devs devised a way to detect Apex without using preformatted device name (so you can name your Apex to something completely different and NVDA will still detect it). Only when using it with iOS does
device name matter.
Currently, NVDA devs including myself are working on coming up with a universal braille commands for NVDA to be used on braille displays (similar to VoiceOver). AT this point, the command sets used on Apex is such that we have room to include other commands.
Cheers,
Joseph

It is. I checked and also I know it is named correctly because
the apex works with my iPhone and the iPhone also needs the Apex
to be called Apex and then the 6 numbers. What else to try?

Hi. I just got a windows xp laptop yesterday and had someone
show me how to install NVDA. I heard you can use the Apex as a
braille display with NVDA. however, I downloaded and installed
the driver from the hw website on to the computer, hooked the
Apex up to the computer with a usb cord, turned the braille
terminal on on the Apex and set it to usb and then the computer
made a kind of 3 beeps sound and said found new hardware and
asked me if I wanted the computer to search for drivers so I said
yes, then I went into the braille settings on NVDA and tried to
set up the Apex as a braille display. It completely failed! I
selected hw displays and pressed enter and got the error beep and
an error message on the computer. Does anyone know what I may
have done wrong? Thank you.
