John, I understand. That explains why my settings aren't being honored. Can you enter the settings in inches or do you have to enter pixels? What is the width of a standard Braille margin? I will try this out as soon as I get a chance. Is it supposed to work now? It may be instructive and even useful. UTD is a graphical mode. It is based on a resolution of 20 dpi at present, although the user may be able to specify the resolution in the future. It also operates on full pages, so braillePages is set to yes . Because it deals with pages, it requires that the paper width, paper height and margins must be specified. If you look at a recent preferences.cfg you will see these specifications. Braille is monospaced horizontally. The wieth of a braille cell is 5 pixels. Horizontal spacing varies according to whether the braille cells in a line have 6 or 8 dots. If a line contains only 6-dot cells the horizontal spacing is 8. If it contains even one 8-dot cell the horizontal spacing is 10. When utd is specified the cellsperline and linesperpage settings are ignored. and the paper size and margin information is used. You can get the number of cells and lines you want by calculating the paper size and margins. The settings dialogue will eventually allow you to chose this information, as will embosser setup.
