Hi Jim,
The purpose of the falidation step is to provide a check, just to make sure
that all the necessary author copyright info is there and that the book appears
to be complete. What validators find irritating is that sometimes,
sloppy scans with many many errors, missing pages, lots of junk characters,
etc, have been submitted. If one considers that the credit offered for a
submitted scan is $2.50, whereas the credit for validation is $.50, its
pretty clear that the idea is for the submitter of the book to do a good job
with cleaning up what they can and not just submit a raw scan that has not been
in any way examined for quality. That doesn't mean submitters
of material need to read every word of their submissions before uploading them.
But validators are not expected to spend hours cleaning up somebody else's mess
either.
Mary
