[bookshare-discuss] Re: VR stream and daisy downloads from the new site.

I spoke with the humanware tech support people today. The woman whom I spoke with told me that they were working on an upgrade, but in the meantime, she said that you can still go to the old bookshare site. You can still use the old unpack feature until the upgrade is complete.

The old site can be accessed by going to:

http://static.legacy.bookshare.orgg

She did mention that you can down load books to the stream from the new site, but only in xml file format. Obviously that means that you will lose the dazy navigation features, but you can still place the newly scanned books on your player by copying them into the $VRTEXT. The only problem with going to the old site is that the newly scanned books are not there.
She seemed to indicate that the upgrade would be coming soon.
I hope this helps some of you.

Ann and all,

From what I understand of the humanware dynamic, calling tech support
might get you somewhere. Many of the designers of the stream work in
the actual tech support department that oversees it, meaning you might
actually be expressing your concerns to someone who could do something
about it. I had a list of designers/engineers who work in the tech
department; I'll do my best to find it. Barring that, however, it
might still be a good bet to call tech support, both for the reason
detailed above and the fact that at least they will know what you are
talking about.

Hi Monica, and all,

Re Humanware, they are well aware of the problem. they are well aware
of the need to upgrade their products. The problem is that they have
absolutely no regard for their customers; down to the basic courtesy of
calling or writing Humanware customers to let them know what the
situation is. They figure they can just allow their customers to sit
and wait because we're over a barrel. I don't know what to do about
it, but I feel strongly enough that I'm going to write a letter. Oh, I
called customer service and the lady knew nothing about what I was
talking to her about, nothing. This is a major breech of courtesy and
common decency!
