With the click of just a few keys, we can download books from the National
Library Service Bard Site and begin reading immediately. Gone are the days of
waiting for a book to arrive in the mail. Patrons with access are grateful for
this terrific development. When any significant change takes place, there are
questions. Dave Bond and Alan Lemly want to answer yours during our next Books
And Beyond. Together, they moderate the Bardtalk list and have been doing so
for almost a year. How did this list begin? What types of questions do they
answer? The website Bardtalk goes hand in hand with the list. How do they
differ? If you are new to digital players, computers,or other devices to which
digital books can be transferred and have questions about downloads, this is a
show you won't wish to miss. Never in our wildest dreams could any of us have
envisioned such a momentous change. The digital player means we are reading
more books than ever before. It is a ground breaking achievement worthy of
celebration and congratulation. Eager to answer questions and share
information to users of the Bard site, Dave Bond and Alan Lemly realized they
had the same desire. Alan says he is the detail man. Dave sees the bigger
picture. It is a combination of two men of like minds dedicated to the same
mission. Through the Bardtalk list they moderate,we all benefit. Founded a year
ago, with an accompanying website, bardtalk.com, information is dispensed to
those with any and all questions about everything to do with the bard site and
digital players.
Alan Lemly was born in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from the University
of Mississippi with a BA in Accounting in 12/78 and a Master of Accountancy in
12/79 and worked all his professional career in Memphis, TN until 2007.
Dave Bond received his Associates Degree from Reading Area Community College in
Technical Illustration in 1976. He went on to receive a BS in Bible with minor
in Biblical Counseling from Lancaster Bible College in 1995. Dave worked in
ministry to victims of crime from 1995-2000. He has been involved with web
design and writing since 2000. Dave enjoys writing inspirational fiction. The
BARD Talk list is a support and information list for patrons of the NLS
who read digital talking books produced by the NLS. Any topic related to the
NLS and the BARD site, or the NLS dtbm (digital talking book machine), as well
as topics related to other players and their connection to the NLS and BARD,
are welcome.
The BARD Talk list will be one year old on November 20, and the BARD Talk
web site (http://www.bardtalk.com) will be one year old on January 1, 2011.
